WANTAGH HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES STEM GRANT FROM TOSHIBA AMERICA FOUNDATION

Wantagh High School is pleased to announce it has received a $2,585 STEM grant from the Toshiba America Foundation (TAF). These funds will support the Science Research Academy’s scientific computing initiatives.
The Science Research Academy is a 4-year-long program at Wantagh High School where students can engage in novel research projects. This grant serves to help these students in their scientific computing endeavors. Students will learn how to code Python with the aid of the microsensors. Because they have numerous applications, students will then be able to use these for years to come to collect data for a wide variety of projects in ecology, biology, chemistry, and physics.
“This grant is tremendous as it will help elevate our research students’ experiences by providing them with cutting-edge tools to explore their scientific questions and curiosities,” says Dr. Paul Guzzone, Principal of Wantagh High School. “We are incredibly grateful to the Toshiba America Foundation for investing in the future of STEM education at Wantagh High School.”
Toshiba America Foundation’s grants fund projects designed by individual classroom teachers. This “direct-to-teacher” approach brings immediate results. Teachers are able to change the way they teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects because the grant supports equipment for hands-on experiments and inquiry-based approaches to the curriculum. At TAF, we believe that STEM is a lot more fun than just reading a textbook. TAF grants provide teachers with the tools they need to be more effective educators. The grants make the classroom a more exciting place for both teachers and students.
