Awards and Scholarships Galore for Wantagh Seniors
More than 70 seniors were recognized at Wantagh High School’s senior awards night on May 31, with school and community leaders coming together to celebrate the Class of 2022. The soon-to-be graduates earned awards for their academic successes and community service, along with dozens of scholarships.
The Board of Education Paideia Award was presented to valedictorian Julianna Rose by Board President Anthony Greco. Salutatorian Skyla Marchesi received the Superintendent’s Excelsior Award from John McNamara.
Awards were presented to students on behalf of the Nassau County Clerk, Comptroller, Executive and Legislature, the Town of Hempstead and the New York State Attorney General and Comptroller. A combined 18 students earned either the President’s Award for Outstanding Educational Excellence or Outstanding Educational Achievement.
Several Wantagh organizations recognized students including the American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and Sons of Italy. Scholarships were presented by the Forest Lake, Mandalay and Wantagh Elementary School PTAs, the 6-12 Association, PTA Council and SEPTA. There were also several memorial scholarships in honor of former teachers, administrators, Wantagh graduates and community leaders.
The senior awards ceremony was coordinated by teacher Kali Psihos. Among the award presenters were Principal Dr. Paul Guzzone, Assistant Principal Nick Pappas, assistant superintendents Dr. Marc Ferris and Anthony Cedrone, Board of Education Vice President Laura Reich and several Wantagh High School teachers.
