English Honor Society Inducts 27 New Members
The Wantagh High School National English Honor Society Alchemist Chapter held its 4th Annual Induction Ceremony on April 25 where 27 students were welcomed as its newest members in front of a backdrop of the library’s fiction and non-fiction literature befitting an occasion such as this. The ceremony began with a greeting from NEHS Honor Society President Emma Caputo, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by member Charles Albano, and continued with speeches from Vice President Kylie Masterson, and President Emma Caputo.
The perfectly orchestrated ceremony awarded each student with an official certificate and floral bouquet cementing their accomplishments in English literature as students, family, faculty, staff and Board of Education members applauded their accomplishments.
The mission of NEHS is to promote mastery of written expression, encourage worthwhile reading, and foster fellowship among students who excel in English studies sharing member’s gifts by service to society and by fostering literacy.
English teacher and NEHS Faculty Advisor Alisa Lopera says that students must have a 90 or above in English, an 85 and above overall average, teacher recommendation, enter two writing contests, participate in an NEHS sponsored service event and submit a written essay discussing the value of English in their lives are selected for membership.
