Broadway Stars Adjudicate Wantagh High School’s Historic Spamalot Auditions
The Wantagh High School Performing Arts Department held auditions for its spring production, Spamalot, this week in front of current Broadway performers—a groundbreaking first in the school's history.
Over 40 students performed a choreographed dance in groups of four after each performed a one-minute song taught the day before in hopes of securing the lead roles in the production inspired by Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Judges included Jim Hoare – Executive Vice President of Theatrical Rights Worldwide who is credited with creating the school edition of Spamalot. Also on the esteemed judge's panel was Michael Fatica – Beetlejuice choreographer/Spamalot understudy, Matt Baumann – Spamalot Broadway performer, AJ Freeman - writer, actress, librettist and musician in theater, and Darrell T. Joe – Spamalot Broadway performer.
Immediately following the audition, students enjoyed a Q&A session where they were encouraged to ask questions to help them understand how Broadway works, what the judges have experienced before making it to the big stage, and what life is like now that they’ve made it. They learned that not all paths to Broadway are the same, and to enjoy the ride!
Mark your calendars for April 4-6, 2025 for the Wantagh High School Spring production of Spamalot in the Wantagh High School auditorium.
