High School Drama Club to Make Theater Magic in ‘Puffs’
A parody of the Potter world is this year’s fall drama production at Wantagh High School, as theater students will perform “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” from Nov. 22-24.
The show features a cast of 38 student-actors as well as a crew of 30. The leads are senior Riley Wood as Wayne Hopkins, senior Logan Schroh as Oliver Rivers and freshman Peyton Burlew as Megan Jones.
“Puffs” focuses on familiar members of the Potter world and also introduces the audience to some new characters. Director Dr. Kimberly Davis said that fans of the films will definitely get a lot of the jokes. She said with strong cast that includes 14 seniors, it was a good year to do a “different kind of comedy.” Many members of the cast also went on last year’s London trip and visited the Warner Brothers studios where the movies were made.
Riley, who is also serving as a student director, is performing in his seventh show at Wantagh High School and it’s his biggest role to date.
“I love being able to play a character that’s just like me,” he said, adding, “There is a lot of talent in this cast. Everyone has been working so long for this show and it’s all coming together.”
Peyton is making her debut with the high school Drama Club, but performed in two shows as an ensemble cast member in middle school. She said it has been a great opportunity to work with and learn from different cast members, especially the seniors who she has never been in a show with before.
Dr. Davis is supported by tech director Chris Cockren and business manager Courtney Prestiani. Student Abigail Ardelean designed the promotional posters.
Show times are Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased online at seatyourself.biz/wantaghms.
