NAHS

"NAHS: A CLUB TO SUPPORT THE ARTS,

ENCOURAGE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT, AND SERVE OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY."

What is the National Art Honor Society?
NAHS is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program specifically for high school students, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

How do I become a member?
Students can become eligible by doing one of the following:

  • Take at least one other art class, and earn a B average in all art classes.
  • Eligible students will also exhibit strength of character, a strong work ethic, and a desire to give back to their community. All Wantagh High School Honor Societies recognize and promote excellence both in and out of the classroom. Therefore, when considering a candidate for membership into any of our Honor Societies, a student's adherence to building and district policies and codes of conduct will be reviewed. This includes, but is not limited to, a review of the candidate's discipline record. Failure to maintain the standards that were the basis for membership may result in warning or dismissal.'

***To remain eligible, members must maintain close to a B average in all art classes and are expected to maintain other academic grades to an acceptable degree.

  • What is required of our members?
Our main goal is to share our passion and talent for art with the community. This is done in large part through various community service activities. Members must complete a minimum of 10 hours community service for each year of membership. They will also be officially inducted into the Society through an annual induction process consisting of a ceremony. To remain eligible, members must uphold the chapter's constitution. Each NAHS member is required to complete ten hours per semester. Six of those must be in club and four must be community service for a total of 10 hours annually. In-club hours include club activities and any NAHS advertised events and service activities. Community service hours do not have to be affiliated with NAHS but you can get community service through NAHS activities.
